Large French Glazed Terracotta Jatte #472

Large French glazed terracotta jatte with a deep conical bowl, broad rolled rim, and warm ochre-brown interior glaze. Jattes were traditional utilitarian vessels used in French households for food preparation, mixing, and other kitchen tasks. This substantial example retains the irregular surface, glaze variation, and hand-worked character associated with practical earthenware.

MATERIALS: Glazed terracotta earthenware

DIMENSIONS: Approx. 16" diameter × 8" H

CONDITION: Age and wear consistent with use, including glaze wear and surface variation. Several drainage holes have been drilled through the base, indicating the bowl was later adapted for use as a planter.
