French glazed terracotta dairy bowl with a rounded body and pronounced pouring lip. This traditional form is often described in France as a jatte à lait or jatte à crème and was used in household dairy work, where milk could be left to stand before the cream was separated. The glazed interior reduced absorption into the porous earthenware and the lip allowed liquid to be poured from the vessel.
