French glazed terracotta dairy bowl with a broad shallow form, pouring lip, and warm mustard-colored interior glaze. This traditional form is often described in France as a jatte à lait or jatte à crème and was used in household dairy work, where milk could be left to stand before the cream was separated. The glazed interior reduced absorption into the porous earthenware and the lip provided a practical pouring point.
MATERIALS: Glazed terracotta earthenware
DIMENSIONS: Approx. 14" diameter × 4.5" H
CONDITION: Age and wear consistent with use, including glaze loss, surface variation, small edge losses, and natural irregularities associated with utilitarian pottery.
