Antique European Porcelain Washstand Set with Silver Banding

Antique European porcelain washstand set with a large basin, water pitcher and coordinating covered toiletry pieces, finished with restrained silver-tone banding. Before indoor plumbing became commonplace, sets such as this created a washing area within the bedroom or dressing room: water was carried in the pitcher and poured into the basin for daily washing, while the smaller vessels held soap and grooming necessities. Complete coordinating sets offer a glimpse into the daily routines of the pre-plumbing household.

MATERIALS: Glazed porcelain with metallic decoration

CONDITION: Antique condition with wear consistent with age and use, including surface marks and wear to the metallic decoration.
